Baby Sleeping Bags for a Better Nights’ Sleep
Article written by Andrina Wilson – Registered Midwife and Holistic Sleep Consultant
What are baby sleeping bags? Why should I use one for my child? And which one is the best value?
Parents everywhere are crying out for a better nights’ sleep. Whether you’re relatively new to this whole parenting gig, or a veteran parent, you’ve likely heard about baby sleeping bags – and may have even used one on your bub.
So what’s all the fuss about? Are baby sleeping bags really worth their weight?
Baby sleeping bags are an excellent way to ensure that your child is kept warm all night long and is therefore less likely to wake due to cold – which is especially important at this time of the year.
They also reduce the risk of Sudden Unexplained Death in Infancy (SUDI), as they are designed to replace the need for blankets which reduces the risk of suffocation.
If these reasons weren’t quite enough, sleeping bags are also a fantastic sleep association so your baby will soon learn to associate the sleeping bag with sleep, and the ritual of getting into the sleeping bag prior to naps and bedtime will signal to your baby that sleep time is near.
There are lots of baby sleeping bags on the market, so which one is best?
There are a few things to consider when deciding on which sleeping bag to buy. One of the most important factors to consider is the fabric composition.
When it comes to your baby it is always best to choose natural fibres. Avoiding anything synthetic decreases the risk of overheating, SUDI and fire hazards.
Merino and cotton are the best choices as they are both breathable fabrics, keeping your baby warm or cool as needed.
By far the most popular sleeping bags available are the Woolbabe Baby Sleeping Bags – and there’s certainly a reason for that! I have personally used a wide variety of sleeping bags with my children, but once I tried a Woolbabe there was no going back.
I have used a several of their sleeping bags. The Duvet (Winter), 3-Seasons and Summer weight – and have loved them all. The quality is far superior to any other bag I’ve tried, as well as a luxurious touch which is super soft against baby’s skin.
The age range of the most popular bag is 3-24 months, giving excellent value for money as you don’t need to constantly up-size as baby grows. Woolbabe sleeping bags are also available in 2-4 years and 3-6 years so there’s a size to suit everyone.
Woolbabe sleeping bags are all made from a merino/cotton blend (30% merino/70% cotton). The Duvet weight is lined with 100% organic cotton and filled with 100% Australian wool – keeping your baby super snug all throughout the cooler months.
